Giles began studying and performing improv in earnest starting in his sophomore year in high school.
He was selected along with two classmates to represent his high school at the Improv Olympics at The Orlando International Fringe Festival.
The competition was sponsored by The SAK Theater Comedy Lab and was preceded by three weeks of free classes to instruct the local high school students on the basics of improv.
After winning the competition, Giles was hooked and began taking formal classes at The SAK Theater and working there every weekend.
He quickly advanced through Class Levels I – IV; learning as much from the classes as he did working behind the scenes.
The SAK Theater was located next door to Terror on Church Street
a year-round, two story, haunted attraction located in the heart of
downtown Orlando. The attraction was well known to both locals and
tourists for both its incredible realism and the eccentric and haunting characters that roamed the streets interacting with guests outside.
Giles auditioned for their ensemble cast and, at 17, was the youngest member of the company. He worked there throughout his junior and senior years in high school and was able to hone his improv skills between his classes at the SAK and his on-the-street characters at Terror.
Giles moved to Baltimore to attend The Johns Hopkins University, but did not give up on improv. He auditioned for, and was admitted into,
The Buttered Niblets, Johns Hopkins only improv comedy troupe.
With the Niblets, he performed on campus and throughout Baltimore, opening for musical acts such as Leon Redbone and comedian Bill Bellamy.
Upon graduating from college Giles took an 8-year hiatus from improv while he served as an infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps.
In 2010 he moved to Los Angeles to attend the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. He brought his passion for improv with him and began taking classes at the renowned Groundlings Theater in Hollywood.
He has graduated from their Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Level classes and looks forward to a continuing relationship with The Groundlings.
